About Praktiker
With the opening of the first hyper-market "All for the house and for the garden" in 1978, Praktiker made a start with lay the beginnings of a commercial company which works successfully all over Europe. Praktiker is an outlet chain, and is active in 9 European countries: Luxembourg, Germany, Hungary, Greece, Turkey, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine. With its around 420 DIY stores in nine countries, almost 27 000 employees and a sales potential of 4 billion euros, it is number fourth at the European level. The profitable growth that forms the basis for these figures, an innovative group strategy in Germany and abroad, an unmistakable profile of the Praktiker brand and a high customer acceptance are the drivers of success story of this company that went public in November 2005. Praktiker Bau- und Heimwerkermärkte Holding AG, based in Kirkel in the German state of Saarland, is a full-service supplier
in the home improvement and DIY market offering products for construction, renovation, workshops, living, garden and leisure
time activities. Praktiker offers its customers - who range from passionate do-it-yourselfers to professional craftsmen -
customized, reasonably priced and reliable solutions. The product range includes both high-quality products from well-known
brand manufacturers as well as proven private label products known for their excellent prices and good quality.
The Praktiker Group operates - including Max Bahr - around 420 home improvement and DIY centers in nine countries, making it one of the leading providers in the european home improvement and DIY sector. In Germany, the company has about 350 locations (268 Praktiker, 77 Max Bahr) with a combined selling space of about 2 mn. square meters, making it the second-largest operator in the marketplace. In Europe, the Praktiker Group ranks fourth, and the company already has the pole position in four countries (Luxembourg, Romania, Greece and Turkey). Foreign sales already account for more than 28 percent of total sales. During fiscal year 2006, the Praktiker Group had net sales of € 3.16 bn. It employs around 27 000 people, including more than 8,000 employees outside Germany.
